What Makes Me the Right Person to Help You Lose Weight and Keep it Off for Life?
To explain what led me to be a Holistic Weight Loss Coach I need to tell you about all the classic mistakes I made on my weight loss journey for almost 15 years until I figured out how to lose it and maintain it holistically!
I used to be an overweight person just like you. I felt sad and worried a lot, had trouble sleeping, sick with colds all the time, digestion problems, relationship problems, and felt the frustration of not fitting any nice clothes. I was a couch potato glued to the TV who ate to comfort myself as food seemed to be the only constant reliable source of ‘love/friendship’ in my life. I didn’t feel like a woman! I had been overweight for over ten years and had tried so many diets from slimming clubs and faddy diet books, to not eating and tried to do exercise only to fail every single time, and every time feeling ever more disappointed in myself, a failure. Something would always ‘happen’ in my life which would trigger me to ‘fall off the wagon’, so then I would stop doing the things I needed to do and I would be back to square one again. I thought to myself if only I had the WILLPOWER and DISCIPLINE to stick to the diet and exercise rules then everything would be ok, I would be happy, get the perfect job, find the perfect partnerand get the unconditional love I wanted.
How wrong I was to think that by changing my outside I would change how I felt about me on the inside!
After 14 years of my weight yo-yo-ing despite going to a slimming club for over ten years, I hit rock bottom. For me that point was November 2009. I was sick in bed for what seemed to be the tenth time that year, with some strange virus. I was really fed up, and sick of feeling sick! I thought about all the people who I’d blamed for feeling low and stuck, and said s*d this, I want to live my life for me. I don’t want to give these people another minute of my thought space! That day I gave up smoking and decided to have another go at tackling my weight. I had literally been carrying my resentments, all in excess three stones!
What followed was a life changing time for me. I spent the next two years determined to help myself feel better and improve my health. A friend introduced me to an alternative holistic clinic where I began receiving specific treatments which helped my body relax. They helped me change my lifestyle, sleeping habits, and nutrition (although I was still overeating). I felt calmer. But I was still ignoring the key issue which was preventing me from moving forward – my comfort eating. Only ten months previously I had seen an advert for a mindset programme tackling emotional eating which really resonated with me but I was too scared at the time (not ready) to try it. It was once I felt calmer that I decided to take the course.
What I discovered was that I had literally been stuffing my feelings down with food! I learned that the feelings I had been running away from were some ridiculous beliefs I had about myself as a person that were simply not true. I set about creating a new reality for myself. I let go of a number of negative and energy draining people in my life who were bringing me down. Whilst on holiday in India I met a yoga master who inspired me to set myself a new challenge, to get my fitness up to scratch!
When I returned home I made a promise to myself. I decided I was going to do whatever it took to take the next step on my journey and ask for help if necessary. I employed a personal trainer to work with me twice a week for 7 months. I got so much energy! Working through the physical pain of exercise also taught me a few important lessons – to tolerate discomfort, build my emotional resilience and become stronger in mind and body. At this time the holistic clinic also recommended I start taking energy movement classes. These, what also turned out to be, spiritual practices helped me get in touch with and harness the natural energy field within my body, which in turn helped to clear my thoughts. By this point I had lost two of the three stone.
I started to meet spiritual people who started practicing body healing techniques on me. I released a lot of trapped emotions from my body and became more aware of subtle energies around me as well as feeling more connected, peaceful and loving towards myself and others. Despite my mum being taken into hospital for a serious health problem related to her being overweight and moving back in with my parents for two months to help out, I still joined a local gym and went four times a week. When I returned, within three weeks I reached my goal, I had dropped 3 stone! It was January 2012. I had visualised it a year previously and it had become reality! But most importantly, what I had learned along the way was to truly love myself unconditionally, it was really a journey of self love.
What I had learned over those two years was everything I needed to be able to then help others and do a job I was passionate about. I couldn’t believe all this stuff I had learned wasn’t readily available to other ladies and people had to go to different providers in order to get each mindset, body and energy treatment. Why was it they had to struggle to figure this stuff out on their own and no one had taught it to them? Well I say seek and you shall find.
With my new found knowledge and qualifications, I started my own holistic weight loss business with a mission to teach what I had learned. The difference to other providers being that I was someone who could now offer people all the mind, body, soul energy techniques for weight loss under one roof. Also, I was then able to keep an eye on the big picture for clients so they could be free to do the work without figuring out what their next move needed to be, like I had to do over a two year period.
People could benefit from everything I had learnt over the past two years. If I could teach them how to lose the weight in the most effective (holistic), and time saving way, then I could make a difference to peoples’ lives. My “big why”, the thing that gets me out of bed every morning, is to deliver these techniques to all the ladies in the world so no one else has to ever suffer what I did or get to that same point (hospitalisation) as my mother had done.
We need to keep healthy in mind body and soul, so each of us can become the best version of ourselves so that we can fulfill our true purpose in life which is to help others in our own unique way!
